Global Hindu Heritage Foundation started with a mission to preserve, protect and promote the richness of Sanatana Dharma. To accomplish this goal, we felt that it is the utmost of the hour to teach about our culture, traditions, mantras, rituals, and our national heroes. This week we talked about Rajendra Lahiri.
Rajendra Lahiri was born on 29th June 1901 in Pabna district (now part of Bangladesh). His full name was Rajendranath Lahiri, at the time of his birth his father Ksiti Mohan Lahiri was in jail for his involvement in the freedom struggle. From his childhood, Lahiri learned to fight for the country's independence from his home. At the age of nine, he went to his uncle's house in Kashi region for his education, and since then all his education has been done in Kashi. During those days, Rajendra Lahari came in contact with the famous freedom revolutionary Sachindranath Sanyal, and from then on he used to attend the secret meetings of the Hindustan Republican Association.
As the revolutionaries thought to exploit the money from the British to provide weapons to fight against the British in India's freedom struggle, a plan was made for it. Rajendra Lahari was also a member of that gang of revolutionaries led by Chandrasekhara Azad. The revolutionaries looted the money on the solid information that the looted money from Indians was being transported by train. The incident became popularly known as the Kakori train robbery. Rajendra Lahari went from there to Dakshineshwar in Calcutta city as the British were actively searching for the revolutionaries involved in that incident. While undergoing training in bomb making there, due to the carelessness of another revolutionary, the bomb exploded. The police were alerted by the massive explosion and arrested Rajendra along with 9 others. Later, Rajendra Lahiri, an accomplice in the Kakori robbery, was hanged.
Death
December 17, 1927 – The day he was to be hanged, Rajendra Nath Lahiri was doing his usual morning exercises. When the jailer asked why he was doing that even on the last day, Lahiri replied.
Jailer Saab, I am a Hindu, I believe in reincarnation. I want to be born with a physically strong body in my next birth so that I can complete my unfinished tasks. Today is the most wonderful day of my life, how can I ignore my routine. I am not dying, but I will be reborn once again in a free India. Some people live for the country but the trait of being ready to die for the country is found only in few heroes like Lahiri. We must always remember that the air of freedom that we breathe today was obtained by the last breath of many heroes. All of us have the responsibility to protect this country from falling into the religious ideology that they sacrificed their lives to save the country from.
