Global Hindu Heritage Foundation started with a mission to preserve, protect and promote the richness of Sanatana Dharma. To accomplish this goal, we felt that it is the utmost of the hour to teach about our culture, traditions, mantras, rituals, morals, and our national heroes. This week, our teachers talked about a poet, writer and a freedom fighter named Garimella Satyanarayana.
Garimella Satyanarayana was born on July 14, 1893, to Suramma and Venkata Narasimha in Gonepadu village in Srikakulam district of Andhra state. All their primary education was done there. He completed the above studies in Vijayanagaram, Machilipatnam, Rajamahendravaram. After completing my BA, I worked as a clerk in Ganjam Collector's office and for some time as a teacher in Vizianagaram High School. After that, he participated in the freedom movement.
It was at that time that he wrote the song "Makoddee Tella Doratanam". Their song ignited the desire for independence in Andhra state so much so that the British government imprisoned them for a year for writing that song. After his release from prison, he participated in the freedom movement with more enthusiasm. Wherever the people gathered while traveling village after village, he would ignite the spirit of the movement with his songs. He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment and kept in jail.  Sadly, while he was in jail, his entire family, including his wife, father, and grandfather, passed away. British government said he would apologize to the British, he would be release.  If he promised not to participate in the freedom struggle any more, he would be released from the prison. But he refused to accept it and preferred to remain in prison.
He sacrificed everything for the cause of independence and suffered many hardships in his personal life. Although he did many jobs for the family, he faced a lot of financial difficulties. Even our leaders did not provide any assistance to after the independence of the country. Due to this, it was necessary to beg for some time on the streets of Madras. His health did not cooperate, and he lost one eye and became paralyzed and suffered abject poverty at the end. On the day of his death on December 18, 1952, the neighbors performed his last rites. Our rulers, who did not give any help during their lifetime. But they erected a statue after his death and showed their patriotism.
Today we all are enjoying the freedom earned by many such sacrificers who gave their all and suffered many hardships. In this country where there are wise men who don't even work hard for their own family, such honorable people who gave their all for the country will be remembered forever. In order to protect the freedom and national pride gained by the sacrifices of others, everyone should always be vigilant, and their sacrifices should not be wasted.
