[GHHF] Bangladesh witnessed amazingly colorful Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations for more than ten hours until midnight. It is a feast for the eyes.
“Life without Lord Krishna seems like prayers without devotion, words without emotion, Followers without fragrance, Echo Without resonance, Existence without a goal, world without soul.” Radha
Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in Bangladesh in an amazing way depicting the life stories of many episodes of Krishn’s life. Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is very happy to announce that our people have organized an amazing Krishna Janmashtami parade walking across the city, demonstrating their skills in portraying Krishna’s birth through various significant events until midnight. They walked on the streets with various episodes of Krishna’s birth, Vasudeva carrying Krishna across Yamuna, Mother Yashoda and Father Nanda, Kaliyah mardhna, King Kamsa and Krishna with flute, Radha-Krishna and many more.
Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Krishnashtami, Janmashtami, or Gokulashtami, is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. In certain Hindu texts, such as the Gita Govinda, Krishna has been identified as supreme God and the source of all avatars.
When Krishna appeared in this world over 5,000 years ago, He eliminated the evil influences on the planet, and He promised to do the same for anyone who celebrates His divine appearance.
As stated in the Hari-bhakti-vilasa (Texts 283-284, 289-292)
“By observing Sri Krishna Janmashtami one becomes free from the sinful reactions committed in seven lives. One gets good children, good health, and great wealth.... One will not have to fear enemies and will get sufficient rainfall and never have to suffer from drought. One will not have to fear natural calamities, hellish conditions, snakes, disease, or the attacks of rogues and thieves...”
So, let us come together to satisfy Lord Krishna on His birthday and spread auspiciousness throughout the world in these dire times!
Krishna means “the all-attractive one”. He is the cause of all causes, the Supreme personality of the entire creation, both material and spiritual, He is the God of all gods, and the Lord within everything and separate from everything at the same time. This is the day devotees celebrate His beautiful pastimes, His presence in their lives, taking time to remember their eternal loving relationship with Him and His presence within all of our hearts.
Significance of the festival
The legend surrounding the festival is that Lord Krishna was born in Mathura on Ashtami night during the months of August-September. He was born inside the Mathura prison because King Kansa, his uncle, had imprisoned his parents, Devaki and Vasudev. He did this after a priest predicted that the couple's eighth son would cause his death. But Vasudev managed to escape the prison when Krishna was born. He made his way to Vrindavan and handed over his child to Yashoda and Nanda. Krishna then grew up in Vrindavan.
Celebrations
Krishna devotees observe fasts and perform kirtans to celebrate Krishna's birth and Krishna temples are all decked up. The idol of baby Krishna, Ladoo Gopal is placed on a small cot and is used to signify Krishna's birth in homes.
As per Vedic chronology, this year marks Lord Krishna's 5250th birth anniversary. According to Panchang, the Janmashtami celebrations began last night (September 6) at 11:57 pm and will end at 12:42 am on September 7. Today, Lord Krishna's devotees will also celebrate Dahi Handi festivities.
As per Hindu mythology, when Lord Krishna was young, he used to steal dahi, butter and other milk products from other houses in his neighbourhood. He formed a group of friends who used to help him steal milk products from earthen pots hanging from the ceiling. They did so by forming a human pyramid to help Krishna reach the earthen pots to have his fill of milk products.
