William Dalrymple, The Age of Kali: Indian Travels & Encounters
“Hindu civilisation is the only great classical culture to survive intact from the ancient world, and at temples such as Madurai one can still catch glimpses of festivals and practices that were seen by Greek visitors to India long before the rise of ancient Rome. Indeed, it is only when you grasp the astonishing antiquity, and continuity, of Hinduism that you realise quite how miraculous is survival has been.”
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is extremely happy to welcome four Pracharaks who have committed to work at the ground level and visited three villages to talk about the richness of Sanatana Dharma and how it is different from Christianity. The discussion started with one of the Priests named Sri Gopi Chary whom we know for the last four years. Near Anantapur, about ten kilometers away, GHHF helped build Sri Rama Temple and performed Pranaprathishta. Sri Gopi Chary is very accommodative and forward looking. He came to the Dalit Village performed all pujas, tied Rakshas to all Dalits, gave prasadam and offered theertham irrespective of their caste or status. He became extremely popular in the community.
From April 1st, under the guidance of Sri Gopi Chary, three Pracharaks have been going to villages with a mission to highlight the richness of Sanatana Dharma. They are going to the Christian families and giving information about the differences between Christianity and Hinduism. They are sharing the 4-page document about the rights of Hindus and how to encounter Christian aggression.
Pillalapalli Village
Sri Gopi Chary and his three associates went to Pillalapalli Village in Brahmasamudram Mandalam and talked about the richness of our culture dating back to ten thousand years or more and how much it was developed and how so many intellectuals and famous people applauded the depth of our culture. They visited Christian families one at a time, sat in their house and explained the reasons for reconversion. They were inspired by Sri Gopi Chary’s assessment and convinced to get converted. He also explained how Christians trap Hindus when they are either in distress or in financial hardships. In fact, these people had their own experiences of being exploited by them.
As Dalrymple said that the only classical culture that was not uprooted by other religions is Hindu culture – traditions, norms, ethics, talents, festivals and practices developed over so many centuries. He says it was a miracle that Hindu culture survived even after so many centuries of Christian and Muslim onslaught. He even said “when I arrived (India), it was one of those moments in life when everything changes. Thirty years later, I’m still here. A constantly changing kaleidoscope of things has kept me attached, and a whole variety of careers have been facilitated by being here.”
