[GHHF] Targeting Temples: The Shocking Mobilization to Demolish a Shiva Temple in Guntur
A bulldozer, several trucks filled with people, government vehicles, a DSP, three Police Station CIs, police personnel, and additional police forces arrived at a location in Guntur. Do you think this was the government machinery that arrived to solve a recent bomb blast case in Delhi? No, not at all. All of them came to demolish a temple.
Indeed, Guntur Municipal authorities work with an unparalleled zeal when it comes to demolishing Hindu temples or conducting anti-Hindu activities. The reason is that a large majority of the staff in the municipality are anti-Hindu Dharma elements. They conveniently overlook the illegally constructed church right next to the temple, and they fail to see the massive mosque being constructed without any permissions just a short distance away. This is because their eyes are completely blinded by Hindu hatred.
Local Hindus in RTC Colony, Gandhi Nagar, 5th Line, Guntur city, Andhra Pradesh, recently constructed a new Shiva Temple. The land where the temple was built is private land, but since the owners were absent, the locals have been building houses and residing in the area for many years; land transactions are also taking place there. The plot where the temple was planned was also purchased by Gurrala Kishore and his brothers from others, spending lakhs of rupees. If they had built a house like everyone else, no one might have cared, but the problem started when they had the idea of building a temple.
Some locals were opposed to the temple construction there, leading them to file complaints with the Municipality and issue threats through local leaders. Despite this, the Hindus there were undeterred and began performing pujas after constructing a small temple to the best of their ability. A few weeks ago, some miscreants, acting like thieves, came when no one was around and knocked down the temple's compound wall. They fled before the devotees could arrive after hearing the news. Now, a large battalion has arrived to demolish the temple.
The majority of those who arrived, claiming to be Municipal staff, were non-Hindus. They behaved very disrespectfully with the devotees who came to protect the temple. The most outrageous part was that some of them went to the extent of threatening the devotees, saying, "We are MLA Nazir Ahmed's people." A Muslim individual treated the devotees wearing the Ayyappa Mala very vilely. Although they tried to provoke the devotees, the devotees maintained restraint and temporarily saved the temple.
The temple was primarily saved due to the initiative shown by local leaders such as Yadla Nagamalleswara Rao Garu and Kanchibhotla Harshavardhana Shastri Garu, and the struggle of the local devotees. However, the average Hindu is unable to understand how long they have to fight to protect their temples. We also extend special thanks to the police personnel because they performed their duty with complete restraint, preventing any tense situation. Our question to the Guntur Municipal staff, who are citing "illegal constructions," is why they are not seeing the dozens of illegal non-Hindu structures constructed in the same area.
The Global Hindu Heritage Foundation (GHHF) also played a key role in the struggle to save this temple and will continue to stand in support of the temple in the future. We earnestly appeal to every Hindu to wake up from their deep slumber and stand up for the protection of Hindu Dharma, because this problem is not just Guntur's but a challenge faced by temples in every region.
