Gaushala with more than 100 Desi Cows started in Memphis TN, USA.
Cow is like the mother of the cosmic Forces, the daughter of the cosmic Matter, the sister of cosmic Energy, the centre of the ambrosia. I address to men of wisdom --kill not her, the sinless inviolate cow. Rig Veda
Protection and preservation of the bovine species is prescribed by all the Hindu scriptures, extolled by ancient Rishis, praised by all Gods and Goddesses, and worshipped by Hindus. Cows bestow good fortunes. Our Parents, all the Guru’s (we have come across in our lives) and Ancestors blessings have enabled us to embark on a massive project, which is near and dear to our heart, The Gaushala.
On September 8th 2018, Sri Krishna Janmashtami, by the divine grace, The Shraddha Saburi Samidha organization has started Gaushala with 110 Cows and Bulls on 70acre land in Memphis, TN, USA. There are wide variety of Gir cows from Gujarat, India: breads such as Sahiwal, Red Sindhi and Pathi.
In this time and age, one might think why do we have a Gaushala?
Cattle are considered sacred in world religions - Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancientIsrael, ancient Rome, and ancient Germany.
Cow, as an adobe of 33 crore Deities is considered as sacred in Hinduism, due to its sattvic qualities. Kamadhenu, the miraculous "cow of plenty" and the "mother of cows" in certain versions of the Hindu mythology, is believed to represent the generic sacred cow, regarded as the source of all prosperity.
The Trinity - Brahma, Vishṇu and Shiva have narrated the following shloka on Cow:
त्वंमातासर्वदेवानांत्वंचयज्ञस्यकारणम्।
त्वंतीर्थसर्वतीर्थानांनमस्तेस्तुसदानधे।
Meaning: O Destroyer of sins! You are the mother of all Deities. You are the reason for yajna (sacrificial fire). Among all Tirthas (Holy places), you are the holiest. I pay my obeisance to you.
In the past our Sages have conducted Yajna’s for wellbeing of the community, and now scientific research has found that the ritual of burning cow dung and ghee as fuel for these sacred fires, actually purifies the air, and has anti-pollutant and anti-radiation qualities in the environment.
The Shraddha Saburi Samidha organization’s long-term plan is to adapt ShivYog farming and reach out to local community and educational institutions to encourage and experience organic farming while volunteering at the Gaushala.
On the farm, bulls are used to plough the fields, and also as a means of transportation of goods. Cow dung is also rich in minerals and makes an excellent fertilizer and Cow urineis insecticide. There is a big need for organic farming, Gaushala can take us back to ancient methods of utilizing cow dung to re-mineralize the depleted soil.
It is considered highly auspicious for a true devotee to feed a cow, Gaushala gives an opportunity to young and old to feed the cows.
Lord Krishna also goes by the names Govinda and Gopala, which literally mean “friend and protector of cows.”Mahatma Gandhi, India’s legendary nonviolent leader, once wrote“If someone were to ask me what the most important outward manifestation of Hinduism was, I would suggest that it was the idea of cow protection.”On that note let’s all protect our cows and reap the benefits of having a Gaushala.
Yoga was introduced by Swami Vivekananda in United States. Today Yoga became prevalent in health clubs, corporate world, medical centers etc., across the country, with approximately 37 million practicing for wellbeing. In the same manner, our hope is performing Yajna’s and organic farming with natural fertilizers will prevail in the future too.
Come and get first-hand experience of being at the Gaushala.
