Global Hindu Heritage Foundation and J D Foundation jointly organized an important event in Bhadrachalam where Sita Rama Kalyanam takes place on Sri Rama Navami Day. In order to convey the significance of Tilak, we decided to apply Tilak on the foreheads of pilgrims. We set up a special booth near Bhadrachalam to provide Buttermilk and apply Tilak on the foreheads of pilgrims  
It is our effort to teach them the greatness of our scriptures, enrich their minds with timeless wisdom, create a sense of pride through time-tested moral and ethical compass, and make them proud of the science behind all our customs and traditions.
Sita Rama Kalyanam
Celebrating Sita Rama Kalyanam is a tradition where the utsava murti of Lord Rama and Sita Devi are brought forth in a procession and their marriage is performed as between a bride and bridegroom. Since Lord Rama represents Knowledge and Mother Sita personifies Devotion, this union symbolizes the secret to the most fulfilling way of life. Thus, through the holy ceremony of Sita Rama Kalyanam, the blessings of the divine couple are invoked for the welfare of the world.
Sri Rama is the ideal representation of Dharma, and Rama Navami along with Sita Rama Kalyanam offers an awe-inspiring opportunity for all to reflect within and attempt to live His ideal traits.
Kalyana Utsavam to Lord Rama  is performed during Rama Navami for two reasons. The first is as follows:
Lord Rama appeared on earth for the good of the world and goodness can happen in the world only through His mercy. Goddess Sita Devi is the embodiment of mercy and without Her, the Lord’s work cannot begin. Goddess Sita told Lord Rama to go on exile only if He would take Her with him. Since the Lord and His consort can never be separated, we perform the Kalyana Utsavam so that we can worship them as a couple denoting marital bliss.
The second reason why we perform Kalyana Utsavam on Rama Navami is because the Rama temple in Bhadrachalam was consecrated on Rama Navami and it is customary to perform a Kalyana Utsavam of the presiding deity during the consecration. This practice then spread to all the temples around the world.
Significance of Tilak
GHHF volunteers applied Tilak on the foreheads of the pilgrims who were attending the Sia Rama Kalyanam. 
 The tilak is of great spiritual consequence to Hindus. Applied on the forehead between the brows, it is a point of immense power and piety. The spot where the bindi is applied is where the body’s most important chakra rests — the Ajna chakra. Our body has seven key chakras, energy centres. These chakras are a source of tremendous power. The Ajna chakra is particularly sacred, as it is the point of confluence of the three main nadis — ida, pingala and shusumna. Therefore, it is also reverentially called Triveni or sangam. 
As the centre of all cosmic energy, this pivotal spot is known as guru sthan, site. Our consciousness resides here; it is also the dwelling place of our mind. Our entire body is controlled from here.
During yoga meditation, the mind is centred at this dhyan chakra. The dhyan chakra represents our subconscious mind and all our teeming thoughts. Focusing our attention on the ajna chakra has a restful effect on the mind. 
Because of all these reasons, great sanctity is attached to this spot on the forehead and the tilak, bindi or tika is rightfully applied here. Also, a tilak of chandan, sandalwood paste, has an immediate calming effect. 
Thus spiritual masters initiate new seekers into the fold by applying tilak, invoking and awakening the divine light within. Without a guru, one may not have this subtle experience. Yet, such is the power of this auspicious spot that even a restless mind can be trained to relax, simply by focusing on the Ajna chakra. 
You cannot bring the mind to a tranquil state just by applying tilak. But the tilak is a medium. It is a point of focus from where you can tap the incredible powers of the Ajna chakra. (Times of India)
Tilak can be worn at any time, but generally speaking, it’s best to apply it after showering, when cleanest. It’s particularly nice to wear tilak when participating in any sort of puja (“worship” in Sanskrit), when going to a temple, or attending a special Hindu event or festival.
