May God come and reside in our hearts;
May our body be the temple of God.
May He feed freely upon the harvest of our actions as the cows graze in the pasture.
May we reap the harvest of our life and dedicate all at His feet,
May we ever remain His true servants.
    - Rig Veda 1.91.13
There used to be a town on the bank of a river. All the people in the village were calm and close together. There was a temple in that village. During the day, the people of the village used to worship in that village. They used to patronize the priest in the temple. One year there was heavy rain in such a fruitful village, the river overflowed and there were floods. The whole village started to be filled with water. All the people in the village left their homes and went to other places to escape from the flood.
A gentleman ran towards the temple and begged the priest to come with them - "Flood water is coming into the village, there is water up to the roofs of the house, the situation is dangerous. We are all leaving town, you too come with us!”  Then the priest calmly said, “Don't worry about me, my Lord, whom I serve forever, will protect me. You go.” spoke. Hearing this, the gentleman left.
After some time, the water reached up to the waist. While the priest was chanting from the front of the temple, some people who were going in a horse carriage stopped and asked the priest to join the carriage as well. But the priest said to Mattu, "God will save me!" They stayed in the temple. After a while, the water reached up to the neck. Some who were traveling in the boat saw them and begged to come with them. “Are you still here! It is too dangerous to be here, the water is coming very fast, you come with us!” Said. But the priest also said to them, "You go, God will save me."
Shivering with cold, the priest was even more shocked when the water came up to his nose. Soon the entire temple was filled with water. The priest sat on the gopuram of the temple while meditating on God. After a while, it started getting dark. It never stops raining, it's cold, and the flow of water doesn't seem to stop anywhere. “God! What have I done you less? I worshiped diligently that day. I believed in you! But why come to save me!” He started complaining to God.
God appeared. “You fool! I have sent you a man, I have sent you a wagon, I have sent you a boat! You stayed here only without leaving the Temple. Is it my fault if you don't remember me?” He was reprimanded and disappeared. The priest immediately became enlightened. He realized his mistake and apologized.
After some time, some people were seen in another boat. "The priest! I know you're still here, come with us, it's not good to be here!” Said. The priest boarded the boat without saying another word and saved his life.
God sends us help in some form to save his devotees. But we deserve it.
