[GHHF] Performed Prana Pratishta to Maremma Devi Temple in a village in Anantapur District in Andhra Pradesh
"Let my every word be a prayer to Thee,
Every movement of my hands a ritual gesture to Thee,
Every step I take a circumambulation of Thy image,
Every morsel I eat a rite of sacrifice to Thee,
Every time I lay down a prostration at Thy feet;
Every act of personal pleasure and all else that I do,
Let it all be a form of worshiping Thee." - Verse 27 of Shri Aadi Shankara's Saundaryalahari
Prana Pratishta of Shri Maremma deity idol was held on March 4, 2024, in Narasapuram village of Beluguppa mandal. We campaigned on behalf of our organization since last year and met the Hindu relatives and motivated them by saying that the Maremma temple in our village is very old and if this temple remains like that it will be bad for our village, but they could not come forward due to financial conditions. It has been said in the past that everyone should rebuild the temple in the form of donations in solidarity, the life of the goddess, and the restoration will be done free of charge on behalf of our organization. They worked hard to rebuild the temple. Today free pooja programs for Amma on behalf of our organization, Amma's life prestige was very successful.
First, the villagers performed pujas to Gau Mata and Goddess. Before that the priest recited Gotras of all the participants and tied protection bracelets to everyone. Later Navagraha Puja, Ganapati Puja, Panchamruta Abhisheka was performed to Maremma Devi. Later Ganapati Homa, Navagraha Homa and Mother Maremma Homa were conducted with great success.
Maremma Temple has fallen for many years, and nobody took interest in rebuilding the Temples. Villagers expressed happiness to Sri Gopi Chary and other Pracharaks and GHHF and expressed their gratitude to our organization for leading the way to rebuild the temple.
What is Prana Pratishta?
Pran Pratistha’s literal meaning is “the establishment of (prana) life force,” which imbues vitality into the image of presiding deity, transforming it from a mere form into a deity capable of receiving prayers and bestowing blessings. It’s a sacred union of the divine and the material, bridging the gap between devotees and the object of their adoration.
During this ceremony, Hymns and mantras are recited to invite the deity as a resident guest, and Murti’s eyes are opened for the first time. While the fundamental meaning of Pran Pratishtha is to give life to the Murti, the ceremony involves various rituals extracted from the Vedas and Puranas, each carrying its unique significance. The process is described in in the Vedas and further elaborated upon in various Puranas such as Mastya Puran, Vaman Puran, Narad Puran, among others.
