GHHF Pitru Paksha was organized to Pay Homage to our Ancestors
Global Hindu Heritage Foundation in association with Sai Datta Manasa Peetham organized 15 days (from September 1-17) of Pitru paksha with pujas and homas in the presence of Cow in Visakhapatnam area. Different kinds of food were offered to cows, dogs, and birds who are believed to deliver to our Pitris. This offering of food followed by pujas and homas provide relief and entry into heaven.
As per Mahabharata, after Karna was killed, he was taken to heaven where they offered jewels and gold as food when he was hungry. Indra told him that he never offered food to the ancestors, only jewels and flowers. Realizing the grave mistake, Karna asks Indra to grant 15 days to correct his mistake. During this, he came back to earth and performed shraddha to his ancestors and offered food in memory of his ancestors. It is because of Karna’s stay on earth for these days, Hindus celebrate this period as Pitru paksha and it has become a tradition to offer the Pinda shraddha to the departed souls.
Sri Sai Datta Manasa Swamy is doing the puja and Homa assisted by other priests.
