Requesting Prof. Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd’s Response to my Queries Based on his “God of Equality”
Prof. Kancha Ilaiah
Professor, Department of Political Science
Osmania University
Hyderabad, Telangana.
Dear Dr. Ilaiah;
I heard your debate with Swami Paripoornananda Saraswathi. Since you are a Christian and wrote a book on “Why I am not a Hindu,” along with other books, since you’re a learned person, a professor, an author, and a scientist I wanted ask you few burning questions I have over the years. I would greatly appreciative if you can respond to these questions based on your knowledge in Christianity.
In the poem you released on May 21, you said:
I will destroy all our shackles,
As I follow only the God of Equality.
Since you are committed to destroy the shackles and follow only the God of Equality, I feel you are in a better position to answer these questions.
1) Sabbath
Overwhelming majority of Christians believe in Ten Commandments. About Sabbath, Exodus 35:2 commands:
For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.
Who will put them to death? Who has the authority in Christianity to put these people to death? You know that millions and millions of people work on Sunday (Sabbath day). All the shops are open where millions are working. Many sports are played on Sunday. Even Christian Book stores are open defying the word of God. I am sure that you thought about it since you are a Christian who you would not go against your God. How do we deal with these people and put them to death? Exodus 20:9 even specifies as to who should not work: “you shall not do any work – you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, yo ur livestock or the alien resident in your towns.” Do you work on Sunday? What about your children?
2) Daughters as Slaves
Exodus 21:7 states that "When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are.” It appears that a man can sell his daughters as slaves and she cannot be freed even after six years. Do you know if anybody is selling his daughters and what is the fair price now? If Christians do not sell their daughters, don’t you think they are denying the GOD? Why your Christian religion is discriminating people based on sex? Do the Christians need permission from the government to sell Christian Daughters.
2) Adultery
Leviticus 20:13 “‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own head.”
Leviticus 20:10 "If a man commits adultery with another man's wife--with the wife of his neighbor--both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.”
Deuteronomy 22:22 “If a man is found sleeping with another man's wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel.”
Bible is clear that the adulterers must be put to death. According to research studies that about 40 percent of the people surveyed admitted having extramarital relations in Mumbai cheated on a spouse/long-term partner at some point in their lives.
Do you believe in the Bible as a Christian “What are your plans to put these adulterers to death? Do you put them to death as per the Bible? How do you put them to death? Who is going to monitor?
4) Rebellious Sons
Deuteronomy 21:18-21 says: “If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father and mother, who does not heed them when they discipline him, then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his town at the gate of that place. They shall say to the elders of his town, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of the town shall stone him to death. So, you shall purge the evil from your midst; and all Israel will hear, and be afraid.”
Is there any specification of the age of the sons that need the punishment? Do you know where all these stubborn and rebellious sons are being stoned to death? Why do we need Juvenile Justice System to prosecute these rebellious sons? We can save lot of money if we follow the dictates of the Holy Bible! How many Christian parents report their sons’ misbehavior to the elders of the town to stone them to death?
Does this command apply to daughters also or only sons?
5) Women
1 Timothy 2:11-12; “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.”
Corinthians 14:34-35; “Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says. If they have any questions, they should ask their husbands at home, for it is improper for women to speak in church meetings.”
We all know that are millions of Christian women teachers and Christian nurses in authoritative position in India and all over the world. What do we do with them? Is it time to fire them because God forbade them? Do you advocate their removal because they are not permitted to be in authoritative positions over men according to the Lord?
Does this command apply to only Christian women or all women irrespective of their religion? There are many women who are in authoritative positions over men. We know that many women politicians, bankers, company managers, IAS officers and hospital managers, who are in authoritative positions over men. We had Golda Meier as Prime Minister of Israel, the Queen as head of England, Margaret Thatcher as British Prime Minister, Isabel Peron as President of Argentina, Indira Gandhi as Prime Minister, and so on. At least twenty countries had women in authoritative positions ruling the countries? How do we deal with them? They are all going against the word of God. What precautions are you taking to make sure that women would not be in authoritative positions?
6) Amputation
Mathew 18: 8-9; “If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.”
Mark 9:43 “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out.”
It is somewhat troubling to understand. First of all, according the Bible, everybody is a sinner. If that is the case, anybody that is born should have been thrown away into eternal fire? Is there an exception where somebody is born as a non-sinner? Since everybody is a sinner who is going to be alive to implement the command of the Lord.
Who is going to cut off the hands and feet that caused a person to sin? Who is going to gouge the eye and throw it away? Who in the Church is responsible to cut off the hands and foot and gouge the eyes.
I am sure, you must have deliberated on this and received the message from God, the Almighty. Can you share your experience?
7) Deformed or Disfigured
The following verse says that no man with defect can come to the Altar to offer food.
According to Leviticus 21:18-20; “No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; no man with a crippled foot or hand, or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles.”
If a man cannot approach the Altar with these defects, who in the Church monitors these people so that they would not come near the Altar. According to research studies, nearly 90 percent would have eye defect in their lifetime. Then if you add the blind, lame, disfigured, deformed, crippled etc., to this list, do you think there will be anybody in the church? Do you know who will check the damaged testicles?
8) Buy Slaves
Leviticus 25:44 states that “Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.”
Do you know which neighboring nations these slaves are coming to India. Do you know where they are placed? What is the process of buying these slaves? Do you need to get permission from the government? Or you simply follow the Bible without going through the trouble of checking with the government authorities?
Dear Sir, I am sure that you can address these concerns since your mission is to destroy all shackles. Based on your faith in “following only the God of Equality,” I am sure you would be happy to respond to these queries at the earliest.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Prakasarao Velagapudi, PhD
