[GHHF] Installed the Dhwajasthamba (the flagpole) in front of Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple as per Vastu Sastra in the Kalyandurg area.
The Global Hindu Heritage Foundation is conducting 16 projects across nine States in Bharata. One of the main activities is to construct new temples, renovate old temples, and make additions such as compound walls and sheds in front of the Temple, provide Vigrahas, and install Dhwajasthambams to meet the needs of the villagers.
On March 29, 2026, in the village of Hanimireddipalli in Beluguppa mandal, the installation of the flagpole was carried out under the auspices of the Global Hindu Heritage Foundation in front of the Sri Veerabrahmendra Swamy Temple, with pooja and homa programs.
What is the importance of Dhwajasthamba?
The Hindu Temples Have Flagpoles: Dhwajasthamba (flag pole) is a sacred architectural element standing prominently in the courtyard of Hindu temples, positioned directly in front of the sanctum sanctorum and perfectly aligned with the deity, serving as the spiritual spine of the temple and a cosmic axis (axis mundi) connecting the earthly realm with the celestial heavens and the underworld. The top portion features three horizontal perches (mekhala) with tiny bells suspended from them, pointing toward the sanctum, symbolizing the Trimurti—Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver), and Shiva (the destroyer)—while the three prongs also represent peace, victory, and power. (Hindutvaonline).
Symbolically, this vertical structure is likened to the human spine (jeevadhara) with traditionally 32 rings corresponding to the 32 vertebrae, channeling spiritual energy (prana) and divine blessings from the cosmos down to devotees on earth. It must be crafted from a single tree or stone for structural integrity; its height must not exceed that of the main gopuram (entrance tower); and its distance from the sanctum is carefully measured to maintain cosmic balance in the temple layout.
The head of the temple, Lakshminarayana, conducts many Hindu religious programs in the ashram, but we also host many needful programs there under the auspices of the Global Hindu Heritage Foundation. On behalf of our organization, a roof shade was also installed for Anjaneya Swamy. However, our organization approached the installation of the flagpole in front of the temple with the help of donors.
The villagers agreed to bring all materials for the pooja program, but our organization arranged the pooja free of charge. Sri Gopi Chary Garu, who has performed 30-35 Prana Pratishta in villages on behalf of GHHF, has undertaken this task with the help of all our Pracharaks and local villagers.
First, it started with Ganapati Puja, followed by Mrityunjaya Puja, Homam, Navagraha Puja, Homam, Ayushya Homam, Dhwaja Pratishta, Kalash Sthapana, Abhishekam to the flag, Dhanyadhivasam, Vastradhivasam, Paladivasam, Pushpadivasam, Maha Poornahuti, and Maha Mangala Aarti, and finally, the annadanam program was organized, and the program was made successful.
When Ashram Peethadhipathi Lakshminarayana Garu was in financial difficulties and approached GHHF, GHHF responded immediately and organized the Dhwaja Sthapana Puja programs free of cost. Special thanks are extended to the organization for organizing the Dhwaja Sthapana Puja programs by the villagers and temple authorities.
