Hindus are doomed to repeat the history, if they fail to know the atrocities on GOA Hindus

During these centuries western Christendom had invaded all other continents; its armies followed by priests and merchants have subjugated, robbed or pillaged most of the non-Christians. Native Americans, African, Australian, Asiatic populations have been subjugated to this peculiar brand of Christian "love" which has generally manifested itself in pitiless destruction, enslavement, coercion, destruction of the cultural values, institutions, the way of life of the victims and the spread of alcoholism, venereal disease, commercial cynicism and the like.Pitrim Sorokin (1889-1968), Harvard University Sociologist

GOA INQUISITION

The Christian historian, Dr. T. R. De Souza has written extensively about the atrocities Portuguese Christians inflicted on Hindus. We will give few examples of the untold horror Hindus have experienced in the hands of Christians through Inquisition. Below is a sample of cruelty inflicted on Hindus.

According to Dr. T. R. De Souza at least from 1540 onwards, ‘All the Hindu idols disappeared because all the temples were destroyed, their sites and building materials were fully utilized to erect new Christian Churches and chapels. Various viceregal and Church council decrees banished the Hindu priests from the Portuguese territories; the public practices of Hindu rites including marriage rites, were banned; the State took upon itself the task of bringing up Hindu orphan children to raise them as Christian; the Hindus were denied many types of employment, while the converted Christians were preferred; it was ensured that the Hindus would not harass those who became Christians, and on the contrary, the Hindus were obliged to assemble in Churches to listen to preaching or to the refutation of their religion’.

The Big House with 200 cells

The Inquisition Laws filled 230 over pages. The place where the Inquisition was conducted was known as the Big House and the proceedings were always behind closed shutters and closed doors. The screams of agony of men, women, and children could be heard in the streets, in the stillness of the night, as they were brutally interrogated, flogged, and slowly dismembered in front of their relatives. Eyelids were sliced off and extremities were amputated so carefully that a person could remain conscious, even though the only thing that remained was his torso and a head.

The Portuguese who ruled Goa from 1510 till 1850 recognized no religion other than Christianity as the legitimate means of communion with God. They imposed, a ruthless system of pillage disguised as trade and a cruel administration. Unless Hindus embraced Christianity, they were nothing more than ‘supplicants’ to be crushed into submission or exiled into oblivion.

Portuguese Catholic Church enacted Prohibitive laws on December 4, 1567

Prohibitions to be followed during Marriage Time by Hindus:

No musical instruments to be played while singing; for Hindu songs shall not be played; betel leaf packages (pan) must not be distributed either publicly or in private to the persons present; Flowers, or fried puris, betel nuts and leaves must not be sent to the heads of the houses of the bride or groom; Gotra ceremony of family God must not be performed; On the day prior to a wedding, rice must not be husked, spices must not be pounded, grains must not be ground and other recipes for marriage feast must not be cooked; Pandals and festoons must not be used; Pithi should not be applied; the bride must not be accorded ceremonial welcome; the bride and groom must not be made to sit under pandal to convey blessings and best wishes to them.

Prohibitions Regarding Fasts, Post-death Rituals

The poor must not be fed or ceremonial meals must not be served for the peace of the souls of the dead; there should be no fasting on ekadashi day; fasting can be done according to the Christian principles; no rituals should be performed on the twelfth day after death, on moonless and full moon dates; no fasting should be done during lunar eclipse.

Prohibitions of Customs and Conventions

Hindu men should not wear dhoti either in public or in their houses. Women should not wear cholis; they should not plant Tulsi in their houses, compounds, gardens or any other place; and following the law of 1567, orphans were kidnapped for converting them to Christianity. Konkini language was also banned.

Three kinds of torture were practiced against the Hindus

The torture by rope consisted of the arms being tied backwards and then raised by a pulley, leaving the victim hanging for some time, and then let the victim drop down to half a foot above the floor, then raised again. These continued up and down movements dislocated the joints and made the prisoner emit horrible cries of pain.

The torture by water made the victim to lie across an iron bar, and was forced to imbibe water without stopping. The iron bar broke the vertebrae and caused horrible pains, whereas the water treatment provoked vomits and asphyxia.

The torture by fire was definitely the worst: the victim was hung above a fire, which burnt the soles of the feet, and the jailers rubbed bacon and other combustible materials on the burning feet. The feet were burnt until the victim confessed "I am Christian."

St. Francis Xavier

A number of educational institutions are operating under the name of St. Xavier where many Hindu children receive their education. These schools never tell us the truth about the atrocities he committed; even today many Hindus don’t care to know the truth and read about their ancestors.

St. Francis Xavier landed in Goa on 6 May 1542, with a resolve of ‘uprooting paganism’ from the soil of India and planting Christianity in its place. All plans of persecution and oppression of the Hindus came along with him. All religious policies and procedures of forcible and fraudulent conversions and demolitions of the Hindu Temples and idols were undertaken under his guidance and missionary zeal. Thus it was St. Francis Xavier who laid the foundation for the ‘compassionate’ (barbarous!) organized system of Holy Inquisition against the Hindus in Goa and other parts of India and a general massacre and extermination of the Brahmins’. ‘If there were no Brahmins in the area, all Hindus would accept conversion to our faith’.

In 1566, Viceroy Antano de Noronha issued an order applicable to the entire area under Portuguese rule : "I hereby order that in any area owned by my master, the king, nobody should construct a Hindu temple and such temples already constructed should not be repaired without my permission. If this order is transgressed, such temples shall be, destroyed and the goods in them shall be used to meet expenses of holy deeds, as punishment of such transgression."

In 1583 Hindu temples at Esolna and Kankolim were destroyed through army action. "The fathers of the Church forbade the Hindus under terrible penalties the use of their own sacred books, and prevented them from all exercise of their religion. They destroyed their temples, and so harassed and interfered with the people that they abandoned the city in large numbers, refusing to remain any longer in a place where they had no liberty, and were liable to imprisonment, torture and death if they worshipped after their own fashion the gods of their fathers." wrote Sasetti, who was in India from 1578 to 1588.

This is what happened to our Hindu ancestors. Do you think that it would not happen to Hindus now? Think again. Hindus must wake up, look around, read the history, understand the history, smell the evil, witness the Hindu destruction, help the needy, end the caste discrimination, stop the conversion, and march to preserve the precious freedom before they are manacled. It is time to learn from the history of Christian atrocities and rampant conversion through deception and allurement, and is not the time to ignore the reality of the potential danger to Hindu way of life and it is not the time to negate the history of other religions and their un-satiated thirst for total dominance to wipe out the Hindu way of life.  Let us not forget our forefathers who were ruthlessly massacred, otherwise we may face the same fate.
